DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course of obstetrics & Gynecology the undergraduate medical students will be able to:

  • provide proper care in managing women’s health including pregnancy, labor and puerperium and to ensure maternal and neonatal health and well being and give proper advices.
  • diagnose and manage patients with common obstetrical and Gynecological problems.
  • describe the basic concept of Counselling and counsel the women in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • refer high risk cases appropriately.
  • resuscitate new born babies and impart proper care.
  • initiate & promote infant & young child feeding practices including exclusive breast feeding
  • demonstrate appropriate attitude required to practice obstetrics and gynecology.
  • demonstrate an understanding about the impact of socio-cultural beliefs and environmental factors on women in pregnancy, labour and puerperium including their overall reproductive health.
  • counsel and motivate women about contraception and family planning, and women’s right.
  • be acquainted with ongoing Programme to reduce maternal mortality & morbidity.
  • value the ethical issues in obstetrics and Gynecology.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is responsible for teaching the students of 4th and 5th phase MBBS course. This course and curriculum is designed to offer basic and practical understanding of the subject which comprises Obstetrics, Neonatology, Gynecology and Family Planning. Aim of this course is to train medical graduate to able to manage common obstetric and gynecological problems and emergencies. They should also be able to recognize the critical cases and refer complicated cases to proper place and person. Total allocation of teaching hours is 200 hrs for lectures, demonstration and integrated teaching and 16 weeks for ward duties (Clinical Clerkship) as per syllabus. We took revision class after completion of schedule classes. Models are used for development of skill in obstetric and gynecological procedure.
